Day 81... Tennis Anyone???

Tonight the Greeneteam had their first Tennis lesson from Dad. We have wanted to teach the kids for a long time but it just never happens. Tonight it did! Yeah!! By the end they were all doing better and were starting to get the hang of it. I enjoyed watching John teach them something completely new. The kids all had fun, showed improvement, and were interested in playing.

I think from here on out we will make it a one on one lesson. They will feel like they are being focused on and it will be easier on John. Would love to someday see the 4 of them playing on the court together.

We picked up used tennis rackets at the Thrift store a year or so ago for a few dollars each. Try there first before shopping for new ones. I figure if they get good, and really enjoy it we can always upgrade later.

Day 80... Divide and Conquer

Sometimes the FUN of the day is dictated by the events that happen during the day. This was one of those times. During Science class the boys had some questions that required THE TALK. (You know the one.) I did my best with the topic but felt like they needed a guys night with their dad to finish up any unanswered questions. Fun for John right??

When John got home we decided that he would have a boys night at home with pizza, Mario Kart, and the "Double Digit Man Talk." I would take the girls for a girls night out. Sometimes it is just easier to divide and conquer. Tonight was one of those nights. Lots of fun and one we will certainly remember.

Day 79....Urban Madness

Tonight we took a large piece of butcher paper and turned it into an urban cityscape. It took us about 90 minutes to complete the project. We worked in teams of two and then all conglomerated on where to put everything at the end. This was such a fun project as we used paint, glue, construction paper, and cotton balls.

We used our normal family method of deciding what to do by letting each person pick an idea/ theme. Our choices.. Tron, The Ocean, A garden, Candy Land, Washington DC, and a city. We put them all in a bowl and we keep picking until only 1 thing is left. Tonights winner was Jackson's idea of a city. We loved how it turned out!! Lots of fun.

URBAN MADNESS... an art project by the Greeneteam
John and Carson were our sky men and Cloud fluffers. John also drew most of the cars and double bus.
The Building Crew Jack and Makenna.
Maddie and I were the Street Crew!! Our job the road, cars, and street signs.

Day 78...Pajama Party

A pajama party was in store for fun today. It was my 43rd Birthday and I felt like breaking all the rules so we did. We stayed in P.J's all day, hung out in the parlor, ordered delivery for lunch, read, played games, knit, played the Wii and snuggled. It was a great Birthday. Very relaxing and exactly what I needed!!

Day 77.... Making Mom's Birthday Cake!!

The completed cake with birthday candle.
Slice of the cake. Scale of 1-10 we would all give it a 10. Both for easiness and for taste. Love that it can be changed by the topping you put on it. If we were to tweak it in any way it would probably be to put some of the topping in the middle too. For $5 this semi home made ice cream cake was excellent!! It truly is a go to recipe!! Fabulous!!

Making a Birthday cake for me was on the agenda for the kids and daddy tonight. The kids did not want me to see it and they wanted to try to do it themselves. I am not a big dessert person so told John to try an ice cream cake. This recipe looked amazingly simple. Whether or not it will be delicious remains to be seen.

This is another semi-homemade idea using Mayfield Ice cream sandwiches as the base. You make your own whip cream and then layer the sandwiches, and whip cream in a loaf pan. At the end top with chocolate chips cut up. I think that John and the kids chose snickers to top the cake with instead. Freeze the cake at least a few hours before use.

The only problem with tonight's fun is that we are saving the cake for tomorrow my actual Birthday!! Sorry Greeneteam some things have to wait!!

I will be sure to update this post with a picture and a taste rating on the cake!

Day 76.. Gwinnett Environmental &Heritage Center

FUN at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center was on the agenda for today. It was an open house for Home Educators and admission was free. They had experiments in their state of the art laboratory. Samples for the Science class curriculum by grade, snacks, and door prizes. The Greeneteam was lucky enough to be a winner!! They won a 1 year membership to the center. How FUN is that??

A new planetarium is opening in September as well as a rope and zip line course. They offer wonderful home school classes, summer camps, nature trails and so much more!!

GHEC is located near The Mall of Georgia in Buford.

Day 75... Slimy Saturday

John was in charge of fun tonight. He made SLIME with the Greeneteam!!

The recipe: 1/2 cup Elmers Glue
1/2 cup water
Color this solution with food coloring of your choice! In another cup you dissolve 1 tsp of Borax into 1 cup of water. Then pour the Borax mixture into the glue mixture and stir. The slime will almost appear instantly. Pull it out of cup and start playing!! Fun!
