Day 349... Butterfly Release and Festival

Today we went to the 16th Annual Butterfly Release in Gainesville. It is held on the third Sunday each May. We ate a picnic with Aunt Teresa before heading to the festivities.
The first booth we came upon was making sail boats.
The boys trying to get their boats to go!!
Next we ladies picked up some butterfly rings!! Cute!!
The next booth was face painting. Kenna got a butterfly, Maddie a flower, Jack a football with flames, and Carson got an MVP sign on his arm.
Aunt T took this one of  us!!
There were lots of little free craft booths to attend. This one was make a butterfly.
Carson with his edible compost. Such a cute idea!
Love this idea for teaching kids what can go into a compost bin. Twigs (pretzel sticks), Leaves (Corn Flakes), Coffee grounds (crunched up chocolate cookies), Grass clippings (green coconut), Fruit and vegetable peelings (raisins and dried banana chips), Earthworms (gummi worms).
We took a break and sat in the shade to cool down.
Aunt T and Maddie waiting for the butterflies to be passed out. While we waited we played password. Fun!!
Each of the 1500 butterfly's were in these little envelopes.
THE BIG MOMENT!!

This was a fantastic free community event. We loved it and can't wait for next years festival!!

Day 348... Rummikub

John is working today and Carson headed out on an overnight date night with Aunt Teresa. That left the four of us for fun.  I threw out lots of options. In the end everyone decided they just wanted to stay home. We decided to play Rummikub. We have had it since Christmas of 2010 and it was still in the package. This game is for 2 to 4 players not 6 so it worked perfect for us today.
1st step each player picks number tiles.
Next you try to organize them.
Once you have 30 points in your own hand you can put the tiles on the table. They are then available for everyone to play off of. The first person to get rid of all of their tiles is the winner of the round.
GREAT GAME!! Thanks Aunt Sarah and Uncle Trip for introducing it to us. I think with practice this will become a new family favorite!! Challenging, educational, and fun!!

Day 347.. Bridging Ceremony and Pie throwing!!

Tonight we had Makenna's bridging ceremony to attend. She has been waiting for this for two years.
The parents had to be on stage. I put Jack, my award winning photographer, in charge of getting her bridging photo. This is the only photo we have! Funny!! Camera privileges revoked.
Kenna happy and waiting for her other friends to bridge!
The staged fake shot.
Maddie was a color guard tonight, and got lots of great patches and service stars too. Great job Maddie on your AHG year.
For wearing their uniforms all year they got to throw a pie in their teachers face!!
Poor Ms. Silvia
The boys had fun eating, and running around after all of the awards!!
Jack with his favorite BBQ sandwich.
Super proud of you Kenna for bridging from an Explorer to a Pioneer. You have worked really hard and  done a great job!!

Day 346... Painting Pottery Charity Event

Tonight we attended a Charity kids club event at Lakeshore Mall.  INK, the Childrens Museum in Gainesville, brought bowls for all the kids to paint. The bowls will then be auctioned off at an Empty Bowl Luncheon to help feed the hungry. This event was free to attend  and helps two non profits. Woo hoo!!
Maddie going over her design with Daddy. John was a little bummed that the grown ups didn't get to paint. Maybe that will be a date for the two of us sometime.
Loved Kenna's inside star burst.
Jack is always pretty serious when working.
Painting polka dots!!
The finished product. I would love to get to see it glazed!! Oh well hopefully it will make some money at auction!!
Kenna's finished piece.
Jacks bowl was all black including the inside. He then had one red stripe. I asked him about the design and he said the red stripe was so the person would know where the front of the bowl was. Funny!!  He added some white dots !! Pretty cool.
Maddie was inspired I think by Gail Pittman from Southern Living!! When she was done with her bowl she said "Aunt Dee Dee has bowls just like this." My sister has lots of Southern Living.

Painting Pottery is always fun. Knowing it will be used to Help feed the hungry makes it even better. Thanks Lakeshore Mall for such a great kids event!!

Day 345... Pudin de Pan Chocolate

Tonight we once again combined school with fun!! Makenna had to do a Caribbean food project. We looked up desserts as those are her favorite. We found a recipe for Pudin de Pan Chocolate basically a Caribbean Chocolate Bread Pudding. It looked easy enough and we had all the ingredients. Now to see if it was any good.

I tried my best to zip my mouth and let the kids do it entirely. Tonight they did great and other than needing to say a few things they did it on their own. Yeah team!!

Maddie measuring out the bread cubes.

Jack crushing his egg!! The first two he did great on this one not so much.

Mixing up the Pudin dePan!!

I tried my best to make a Caribbean inspired dinner. Even if it wasn't authentic it was yummy!!

We put on Caribbean music while eating.  The kids ended up in another conga line!!

Our Pudin de Pan Chocolate topped with vanilla bean ice cream.

The kids give this a 10 make again and so do I . It was yummy!! I would say overall a really nice dinner combination and really easy to make.
The recipe came from About.Com (Pudin De Pan Chocolate)

Day 344... Jazzy Key Chains

Back in December my sister sent me some supplies to make key chains/fobs. Tonight we decided to make them all. We are hoping to sell them to raise money for Jasmine Brewster. She is a 4 year old little girl that is fighting cancer.
We ironed the ribbon on with stitch witchery.
The kids loved ironing and pushing the steam button.
HULK SMASH: Jackson attaching the metal to the ribbon.
Next we put on the ring.
Last we sprayed them with a fabric protector.
We decided to name them JAZZY KEY CHAINS in honor of Jasmine.

Love the way they turned out. Thank you Jill Thacker for teaching me to make them years ago at MOPS.

We only have these 13 to sell. 100% of the money will go towards helping Jasmine Brewster.
Let us know if you would like to purchase one. Just give me the number next to the key chain.
COST: $6 each + shipping.

Jasmine Brewster.
