Day 262...Opening Day of Snow Whites Birthday Surprises!!

Lots of fun at our house today!! It was opening day at the theater for Snow Whites Birthday Surprises!! Both John and Jack came to support the girls for their big first day. Carson and Grandma will be here on Saturday.
Last year I started a tradition of giving the girls a piece of jewelry on opening day of the show! Kind of a good luck charm. They were thrilled this morning when they each got a new ring. Maddie's is the blue pinkie ring and Makenna the purple flower. Super proud of them for working so hard, memorizing their lines, and doing a great job!! Love you girls!!
Maddie in action on the stage as Dwarf #3. She is very energetic
and you can tell is really enjoying herself.

Makenna as Snow White during the Birthday scene!! She loves the gowns and dressing up as Snow White. She also loves seeing the kids after the show!!

The girls together on stage!!
Last year when Makenna was a cat in Peter Rabbit Maddie desperately wanted to be in the play too. This year she made it !! So great to have both of my girls on the stage together!!

We ended the afternoon with a picnic at the park to celebrate opening day!!

Would love to see you at the play:

Tonight we met up with friends and went to Mellow Mushroom for the first time. The kids gave the pizza a 10!! They also loved that they had an extreme gaming corner where they offered X-Box games to play for free. LOTS of fun!!

Day 260... Crepes Alaska

This is a picture of what we call Crepes Alaska. When I was young, my sister and her best friend Candy discovered this fabulous, fancy, dessert. They found it at a place called Josephines. It was a restaurant in the mall on the top floor of Joseph Hornes Department Store. I think I remember going once with my mom to try them. Talk about a wonderful treat. A crepe stuffed with vanilla ice cream and then topped with whip cream and chocolate syrup. YUM!!

Tonight for fun we decided to teach the team to make this wonderfully tasty and oh so yummy creation!!
Johns recipe for crepes...
2 eggs whisked
1/2 cup of milk
1tsp of vanilla
2 tbsp melted butter
1 cup of flour
Mix these all together with a whisk, blender, or beaters.
This recipe made 7 crepes.
Use a crepe pan or nonstick small skillet on med/high heat. We poured about 1/4 cup of batter per crepe.
Let the crepes cool. Fill the middle with vanilla ice cream. Fold and flip seam side down. Then top with whip cream and chocolate syrup.

I like teaching my kids to make recipes from my childhood.  I think it is fun to share a story about where a recipe came from, what my memories were when I had it for the first time,  and then create it together. Something fun to do and hopefully a memory made for each of them!!

Day 259... Yellow River Game Ranch

Today we decided to take advantage of Yellow River Game Ranches Dollar Deal for Presidents Day. It has been on my list of things to do with the kids for years but we have never tried it. It was beautiful today and the price was right so off we went.
This picture makes me laugh.. When we got home Maddie said "Yellow River Game Ranch.. Like a Zoo only worse!! LOL!!
Maddie was the most excited about seeing all the animals.
She was thrilled that the deer were so close!
Wish the black bear had been up and moving!!
The Peacocks were beautiful!!
My guys!!
These guys were big and so, so dirty!!
It was a GREAT day for a walk and visiting the animals.
We love seeing Covered Bridges.

We had a good time and it was worth $1 each to see the animals and get outside on a
BEAUTIFUL GEORGIA DAY!!

Would we go back?? Sadly, no! With an $8 admission fee I would rather buy a Zoo Atlanta pass and visit  the animals there for a year.  This place seemed run down, the animals dirty, and there was not a worker in site once you got pass the entry. The kids commented several times that they felt bad for the animals. Honestly John and I did too. A neat place but in my opinion in need of a lot of work and TLC!!

Day 258... Chinese Checkers

Tonight we played Chinese Checkers for the first time. It  is a really neat game of strategy. This was a fun game but a really, really, long game. The kids were in a slap happy, giggly, silly, mood which made the time seem even longer.

At the end we sped it up to a speed game. Big Daddy was the winner. I think we all have a better idea of how the game works, and will definitely play it again. The next time we will start it earlier in the evening or maybe play it over a couple of days.

Day 257... Callaway Gardens

Today we headed to Callaway Gardens. We have never been there before. We checked the weather yesterday and it looked like it was supposed to be 65 and Sunny.  We were really excited about the weather for the day, however, apparently the forecasters were WRONG!! As soon as we got there it started to sprinkle. It increased to a full rain pour before we left.  We were a little bummed about this as we really were hoping to walk the lake and walk along the trails. We were also hoping to see the outdoor Bird of Prey show. Oh well!!  We made the best of the day and enjoyed the butterfly center and horticultural center. Both were very nice.

I don't know what it is about these head shot pics but they make me LAUGH!!

My kids were really excited that it was sprinkling because it meant they could wear their hoodies. I never let them wear their hoods up.  I don't know what it is about them that I HATE so much, but I just do. The other funny part about this picture is that they all had a hoodie on. NOT planned at all. I see my kids blowing this picture up as a GAG gift for me in the future.

John and the team outside the butterfly center. They have great little benches and swings to sit on!!

Maddie was really excited to find ladybugs in the butterfly house. He was hiding just under this leaf.

A nice lady took this picture of all of us in the Horticultural center.

Maddie walking over the Bridge to Tarabithia!!!
We found this flower in the center. Had to get a picture of my SNOW WHITE next to this SNOWWHITE!! Shameless PLUG for the show I know..  It opens this Thursday and runs until March 10th!!

Admission is FREE for Callaway Gardens, yes FREE for the month of February. If you are looking for a fun and inexpensive outing, this was LOTS of fun!! I wish we could have done more than we did, but that just gives us a reason to go back sometime!!
