Day 246.... Daddy's Choice

Today is Johns 42nd Birthday. I told him it could be daddy's choice on the fun thing of the day. He chose a project with food. If you know him at all you know he loves to cook, bake and experiment with delicious foods. Tonight was no exception.
We looked through my Pinterest files and found a yummy recipe for Home made Oatmeal Cream Pies!! Not something I would think to make as I usually just buy the $1.25 Little Debbie Box! We all love Oatmeal Cream pies so we thought why not??
The twins with their giant, semi-homemade treat!
Happy 42 baby John!! You are a great cookie maker!!

Here is the link to the recipe site http://bakedperfection.com
John and I  cheated and made Betty Crockers Oatmeal Cookies. Thus the semi home made title.  John has been making Betty's cookies forever and they always turn out so great we didn't want to chance it on an unknown cookie.  Plus I hate buying all the ingredients. Sad.... I know but the less ingredients that I have to use the happier I am. We did the filling exactly like the recipe and it was delicious.

The one thing I would say is that this is a very sweet snack. Smaller cookies would have been better. We made 18 large cookies so 9 Oatmeal pies. I think we should have done half the size. They are absolutely delicious and would be great for a potluck party. Not sure I will ever want to eat a Little Debbie Oatmeal pie again.

Day 245... Fizzy Explosion bags

Tonight we did a fun science project fizzy explosion bags!!
The recipe called for 1 1/2 Tbsp baking soda wrapped in a 5X5 square of paper towel. This is your time release special packet.

We decided to use more and a larger paper towel because our bag was gallon size.

The recipe than calls for you to mix 1/2 cup vinegar with 1/4 cup warm water. You pour these two into the ziplock bag.
Maddie getting ready to drop the time release packet into the liquid solution!!
Everyone standing back waiting for the POP!! Sadly on the big bags it never came. We tried three times. I think the seal on the bag was just too tight. It would not pop and explode. Lots of fun watching the bag get bigger, and bigger.
We tried with our small snack size bags.
Success!!

Most of the time our FUN of the day is planned right before we do it. Today was one of those days. I did not want to go and buy sandwich size bags. I figured if I increased the amounts we were using we could get my large ziplocks to explode. I was WRONG.  The snack size was fun to see but the other I know would have been better. We will definitely do this one again this summer. I think we will use some food coloring to make it even more fun!! The kids loved doing it and I think it will make a perfect summer afternoon project!!

Day 243... Living in Space Field Trip

We spent the afternoon at Gwinnett Environmental Center seeing the Space exhibit before it leaves in March. The kids had fun dressing as astronauts!!

Kenna trying out one of the space exhibits. She had to stack all the pins in a certain amount of time or it told her that she had failed her mission. She failed every time!!
This was a roll up musical piano that the astronauts can take into space!! Pretty cool!!

John and the kids waiting for the space movie to begin!! Today it was a movie about the sun!!

Jack thought the erector set was pretty cool!!
Makenna using the mechanical arm to try to complete another mission!!

Carson hanging out at the space station!!

We had fun at the Living in Space exhibit. The E-Planetarium was a neat way to see a movie but I wouldn't exactly describe it as a planetarium show.  This exhibit is at GEHC until the end of February. FUN!! We may go back and see some of the other space movies!!  I love having a family membership here. They offer a lot of different activities and events. Most of the events are included as members!! Fun and affordable!!

Day 241... Kickball

The weather was gorgeous today here in Georgia. We decided to take advantage and get outside for a bit. Makenna chose playing kickball. We had lots of fun even if the teams were not fair. John was like a ringer for Carson and Maddies team. He practically kicked the ball over the fence every time. Oh well!! Fun even if my team lost!!

Kenna scored the 1st run for TEAM MARIO.

Maddie on 3rd giving us the business that she was heading home!!

Lucky loves when his family comes out to play. He always wants to play too.

The winners for TEAM CJM!!

Team Mario pretending to take the news really hard!!  In our defense we did pretty darn good!! John and his soccer skills can go jump in the lake. Just kidding honey.

Day 240... Milk Art

I found a super easy craft idea on Pinterest called Milk Art. I knew when I saw it that we would have to try it.

This one was one of my favorites. Can you see the mans face??

The only craft supplies needed. Milk, food coloring and a toothpick. We used sectioned plates so that we could make 3 different projects without having to dump them.  Directions: Just cover the bottom of the plate with a small layer of milk. Add in one drop of food coloring at a time. Use toothpick to drag the color through the milk.

Carson and Kenna working on their milk art!
This was Jacks first attempt. It was so pretty with the red/green.

Maddie swirling up her milk art. You drag the toothpick through the color and into the milk. Really cool!! Two light colors mixed with then a dark swirled through turned out great!
Love how Makenna's plate turned out.
Love how Maddies large spot turned out. So pretty especially the blue!!
