Day 153... Shopping for Operation Christmas Child

Shopping for Operation Christmas Child has been a family tradition for Christmas the last 10 years! I started taking the kids when Kenna was just two. We can never afford to give a lot but I know letting the kids pick out even just 1 or two items each makes them feel like they are helping and giving to others with so much less than we have.

I will never forget when Hurricane Katrina happened Makenna asked me if I knew where a box was? I said "what kind of box and why do you need it?" She then said "I am going to fill it with some of my things for all those children in the hurricane that don't have anything anymore". It melted my heart to hear her! So sweet! The three years of taking her and filling that little shoe box with things had taught her to help and give to those in need.

Day 151.. Kids Cook Dinner

Tonight for fun we decided to stay home and let the kids cook dinner for themselves. Each person was responsible for making their own egg or omelet
Carson has loved being in the kitchen since he was 5 or 6!! He may be the next Emeril!!
I feel like this is a Clue game picture. Maddie, in the kitchen, on the floor, with the toaster and the dog!! UGG!! Not the place I normally put the toaster. I guess when you are 7 and can't reach the plugs up on the counter this is the ideal spot!!
She made a yummy bagel sandwich.
The next Martha Stewart??

Jack carefully putting his omelet in the oven to finish the top!
Slowly getting it out of the pan!
So proud of his omelet. It was the prettiest of the night!!

Day 150.. Apple Snickers Salad

Looking for something to do with all the Halloween candy? Try this delicious Apple and Snickers Salad.

We used 2 granny smith apples cut into bite size pieces, 8 trick or treat sized Snickers bars frozen, and some light cool whip. Cut your apples into bite size pieces, smash the heck out of your snickers bars, mix together and add 2-3 heaping spoonfuls of cool whip. Eat immediately.

The tart of the granny smith works so well with the chocolate and cool whip. My kids loved smashing the snickers and gave this dessert a definite 10 MAKE AGAIN!! Maddie said at the end "Thank Pinterest for me mama this was delicious!"

After 12 years of trips to the mountains to see Grandma, today we finally stopped at the rock shop north of Helen. The kids loved it, and Sabrina the woman that runs the shop was so nice! We bought a Christmas gift for a cousin and some marbles to experiment with. FUN!!
